Y CHWEDL

MY STORY

O Feirionnydd i Gaerdydd,
ac ymlaen i Ddyffryn Tywi

Dechreuodd y daith ar strydoedd culion Dolgellau, dros Fwlch yr Oerddrws, drwy Bowys Fawr, gan lamu dros y Bannau a sleifio drwy'r Cymoedd hyd gweld pigau'r Stadiwm yn crafu'r cymylau.

Wedi cyfnod o weithio mewn amryw swyddfa, daeth yn bryd imi ddiffodd y cyfrifiadur a chodi'r mwrthwl a chun, gan fynychu cwrs Gwaith Coed Safle yng Ngholeg Caerdydd a'r Fro.

Mae gwaith coed wedi bod o ddiddordeb erioed, ers y dyddiau phan oeddwn yn potsian yn y sied efo Taid â'm mhen prin yn cyrraedd y fainc. Felly teimlad cwbl naturiol oedd ail-osod y pren yn y feis, ei dynhau, a dechrau ei naddu.

Erbyn hyn 'rwyf innau a'r teulu bach wedi ymgartrefu yn Ffairfach, ar gyrion Llandeilo, a phrin tafliad carreg o ddyfroedd Afon Tywi.

Hanes Pedair Cainc

Ers 2017, mae Pedair Cainc wedi bod yn adeiladu ystod eang o ddodrefn sydd i'w gweld mewn nifer o dai yn ne Cymru a thu hwnt.

Fesul blwyddyn, mae'r gwaith wedi tyfu yn ei faint, ac erbyn hyn mae portffolio Pedair Cainc yn cynnwys ystod eang o ddodrefn alcof, dodrefn cywrain i'r cartref, meinciau, byrddau, silffoedd siop canolfan Yr Ysgwrn, a selar win i

gasgliad o 2,000 o boteli.

Fel hogyn o Ddolgellau, bum yn rhyfeddu ar bensaerniaeth unigryw y dref, a magwyd barch a diddordeb mewn gwaith cywrain a dodrefn ers phan oeddwn yn blentyn yn crwydro strydoedd yr hen dref. Cafodd hyn gryn effaith ar weledigaeth Pedair Cainc, fod hi'n holl bwysig creu rhywbeth nid yn unig at ddant y cwsmer, ond hefyd i edrych fel phe bai'n perthyn i'w le ac wedi bod yno erioed.

Symudodd y cwmni o Gaerdydd i Landeilo yn 2021, ac yn 2022, fe adeiladwyd weithdy pwrpasol newydd ar y ffarm deuluol, ac yma gaiff holl greadigaethau Pedair Cainc eu hadeiladu.

From the Mountains to the City

and onto the Tywi valley

The journey started from the narrow streets of Dolgellau, down the long and winding road through the vast Powys, over passes and through the Valleys until the City's skyline filled the windscreen.

After several years of working in various offices, it became time to log off the computer for the last time and pick up the tools, attending a Site Carpentry course at Cardiff and the Vale College.

Carpentry has always been a subject of interest, ever since those afternoons pottering away in the shed with Taid, barely reaching the workbench top. Heading back to the bench and tightening the vice was something that felt completely natural.

By now, my family's moved and settled in Ffairach, near Llandeilo, and a stone's throw away from the Afon Tywi.

Pedair Cainc and the story so far

Since 2017, I've built a wide variety of pieces of furniture which can be seen in many homes across south Wales and beyond.

Each passing year has seen new commissions added to Pedair Cainc's portfolio, which includes a host of fitted alcove furniture, finer stand-alone pieces, benches, tables, shelves for the welcome centre at Yr Ysgwrn, and a great big wine cellar for a collection of 2,000 bottles.

As a Dolgellau lad, I was often struck by my home town's architecture, which in turn made me respect and take great interest in fine work and craft. This hasbeen a source of inspiration for Pedair Cainc, that a comission is not only done to the customers specification, but has to carry the style and feel of the home.

The business moved from Cardiff to Llandeilo in 2021, and in 2022, a new purpose-built timber frame workshop was raised on the family farm, where all of Pedair Cainc's creations are built.
